Industrial and Car Park Flooring.

Factory floors, loading bays, car parks and plant rooms. Forklifts, chemicals and hot wash-downs, on a floor that has to stay seamless and cleanable. This page sets out what the slab needs, the layers and the order of work.

The build-up.

Three layers over the structural slab.

From the slab up

  1. Substrate preparationShot-blasted or ground, moisture checked. The slab must be sound, clean and free of oil before any primer goes on.
  2. EPIPRIMEEpoxy primer, applied by roller.
  3. EPITHANE CPSMedium-duty polyurethane self-levelling screed. Heavier duty takes EPILOX 246 epoxy mortar underneath; car parks take a floor hardener or a PU deck coating instead.
The industrial floor build-up drawn exploded: slab, prepared substrate, epoxy primer and the polyurethane wearing coat with a bay line

How the job runs.

  1. We check the slabConcrete or screed of at least 25 N/mm², with its moisture checked, and free of oil, paint and loose material.
  2. Surface preparationVacuum shot-blasting is preferred. Planing, grit blasting or grinding are used where they suit, until the surface shows a profile.
  3. EPIPRIMEThe epoxy primer goes on by roller, within its pot life and without thinning.
  4. EPILOX 246, under heavy-duty floorsThe epoxy mortar is trowelled on at 3 to 6 mm before the wearing coat.
  5. EPITHANE CPSThe polyurethane coat is applied within its pot life and spike-rolled at once to release air.

Materials.

  • EPIPRIME

Epoxy primer for concrete and screeds.

  • EPILOX 246

Three-component, solvent-free epoxy mortar, trowelled on at 3 to 6 mm.

  • EPITHANE CPS

Polyurethane floor system, the wearing coat.

  • Floor hardener

Non-metallic dry-shake hardener for car park decks and ramps.

These products are made by CHEMIND. Where a project specifies another manufacturer's system, we apply that instead.

Questions we are asked.

What does the slab need before you start?
Concrete or screed of at least 25 N/mm², clean and free of oil. We check the moisture before any primer goes on.
How is the surface prepared?
By vacuum shot-blasting where possible, or by planing, grit blasting or grinding, until the surface shows a profile.
What goes under a heavy-duty floor?
EPILOX 246 epoxy mortar, trowelled on at 3 to 6 mm, under the wearing coat.
What do you lay in car parks?
A floor hardener power-floated into the fresh concrete, or a polyurethane deck coating.
